Grand Princess On Troubled Hawaiian Voyage Hit by Next Snafu

Princess Cruises Grand Princess developed another technical problem only days after a small switchboard fire was extinguished on board. The new problem forced the ship to cut short its current trip and return to San Francisco prematurely.

Grand Princess is currently on a 15 night Hawaii sailing departing from San Francisco. The ship suffered from a contained electrical fire. Shortly after 8am on Nov 30th the fire in an electrical switchboard left the ship without power and propulsion for less than one hour. No passengers got hurt and Grand Princess was able to commence its sailing to Hawaii without assistance.

4 days later a new problem with electrical switchboards developed on board that left the vessel with “limited propulsion”. An on board investigation by Lloyds and the Coast Guard judged the ship safe to sail, however the speed is limited. To make it back to San Francisco for its next voyage Grand Princess has to skip ports in Kauai and Maui and will return immediately.

Princess Cruises has offered affected passengers a full refund of the cruise. Those who do not want to return via ship are offered free airfare from Hawaii.
